Getting Started
From installing the app to sending your first automated invoice — here's exactly what to do, in order. The whole setup takes about 5–10 minutes.
Install the app
Install Smart Invoice Generator from the Shopify App Store and open it from your Shopify Admin. On first load, the app connects to your shop and initializes sensible defaults (theme, layout, currency and date format based on your shop's locale) — nothing to configure yet.
Complete the guided setup tour
The first time you open Settings & Design, a "Welcome to Settings!" dialog explains a short (~2–3 minute) guided tour and offers a Start Tour button. It walks you through three steps:
- Step 1 — Upload your logo (drag & drop, recommended size ≈180×100px)
- Step 2 — Company information (name, address, VAT/tax ID, city, state, ZIP)
- Step 3 — Date & number format (pick the formats your documents should use)
Each step saves immediately as you fill it in — you can also skip the tour and configure everything manually later in Settings & Design.
Get to know the Orders screen
The Orders screen is the app's home screen — every real Shopify order appears here, ready to become an invoice. Use the quick date-range buttons or the Advanced Filters panel (order number, email, tag, payment/fulfillment status) to find what you need, and check the Order Insights panel on the right for a quick overview of revenue and status.
A dismissible "You're just a few steps away…" banner appears on this screen until your setup is complete — it links straight back to Settings.
Generate your first invoice
Click any order number to open its Invoice Detail screen. Choose the document type (Invoice, Packing Slip, Refund, or Pro Forma on paid plans) and language, review the live preview on the right, then use the Downloads menu to download the PDF.
Send it to your customer
Back on the Orders list, click the envelope icon on an order to open the Send Invoice screen. Review the To/CC/BCC fields and the live email preview, then click Send invoice. If you'd rather this happen automatically, enable Auto-Send Invoice Email under Settings → Payment & Email Webhook and choose whether it triggers when an order is paid or created.
Make it yours
From here, everything is optional polish: pick a design theme and colors, add your payment terms and footer text, turn on a "Paid" stamp, set up additional languages, or connect SFTP export for your accounting system. The Modules & Settings page walks through every option in detail.
